MIDDLE SCHOOL ADMISSIONS

The Calvary Baptist Day School Admissions Committee seeks to identify those students who desire a Christian education and who are capable of undertaking and successfully completing the scholastic and behavioral expectations of our middle grades.  Our experience has been that the students most likely to experience success in the Calvary middle school program are those who have a strong Christian home background, and who have demonstrated no extraordinary educational, emotional, or behavioral needs in their previous school setting(s).

PROCEDURES FOR ADMISSION

The first step in the admission process at Calvary Baptist Day School is for a family to submit an application and non-refundable application fee for each child who is applying.  Each student’s name will be placed on the wait list for his or her current grade.  The wait list for each grade is sorted by priority as described below.

ADMISSIONS PRIORITY -  Whenever openings occur, priority for consideration will be given first to siblings of currently enrolled Calvary Baptist Day School students, second to members* of Calvary Baptist Church, and third to the general public.  Although applications are considered in priority order, each application will be reviewed based on the following five criteria:

1.      SCHOOL RECORDS - When you are notified of an opening at Calvary Baptist Day School, we ask that you gather school records for the current grade and the two previous grades (when applicable).  Grades should be strong so as to reflect academic potential and

performance.  The student should have a history of good attendance.

2.      DISCIPLINE HISTORY - Students must have a history of good behavior and respect

for authority.

3.      PREVIOUS TEST SCORES - Previous achievement and aptitude test results are

reviewed for an indication of academic strengths and weaknesses.

4.      CALVARY BAPTIST DAY SCHOOL ADMISSIONS TESTING – Students should

be able to demonstrate a performance in the high average or above range in both

achievement and aptitude (IQ).

5.      POSITIVE TEACHER RECOMMENDATIONS – When an opening occurs at Calvary

Baptist Day School, you will be asked to contact two current teachers or one current

(and one former teacher) to submit positive recommendations for the student.

COMMITTEE DECISION - A student's application folder will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee when all supporting documents are received and the admissions tests have been scored. Families will be notified in writing of the decision of the Admissions Committee.

The Admissions Committee may make one of three decisions.

  • Full, unconditional acceptance.
  • Acceptance on a contractual basis.  For example, the student may enroll, but will have to meet certain grade and/or behavioral expectations.  Contractual acceptance is not unusual when a student is coming to Calvary in the upper grades.
  • Not Accepted.  The decision of the Admissions Committee is final. This student may choose to remain on the wait list (moving to the bottom of his or her category), and be re-tested or reconsidered at a later date.

ENROLLMENT - For the student to be considered officially enrolled, the family must pay the non-refundable registration and activity fees (if applicable) within two weeks of acceptance or before the first day of school attendance, whichever comes first.

*For the purposes of application, wait list, admission priority, and tuition, “church membership” means that at least one parent is a member of Calvary Baptist Church.  In the case of separation or divorce, the parent who retains legal custody and permanent residence for the student must be a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
