The Coach: Tom Kester

Having competed in youth soccer from age eight at the "travel team" level of play, Coach Kester came to Winston-Salem and the '67 Twins team as a sweeper and started each of his last three years of eligibility. Recently, he initiated and built a program from its infancy and coached those same three years at his last middle school position. Past middle school players now play high school soccer for Mount Tabor, West Forsyth, Reynolds, Davie, and Calvary. He earned his NCYSA "E" license in order to coach his son's u10 challenge team last year. Eight of the nine players from that team were placed within the Twins organization this year. No conference championships in soccer adorn his mantel, but a love for the game pours from his heart. He now considers himself a student of the game and insists on letting his players make decisions on the field without a lot of yelling from the sidelines.

Coach Kester seeks out the ministry opportunity in the fellowship of sport. Coaches and players honor Christ in playing the game with honor. From encouraging younger players in the skills aspects of the game to challenging a seasoned player's tactical decision-making, Coach Kester hopes to develop and advance the playing level of the junior varsity team in the hope of feeding better players to the varsity squad. Mentoring players to define themselves on the field as young men of Christian character rewards Coach Kester for his time and efforts.
