How long is the school day?
The school day is from 8:00 a.m. until 3:10 p.m. for high school students. The school day ends at 1:30 on Fridays.

When does the school year start and end?
Usually, we start in mid August and finish the year in late May or early June.

Does your school calendar follow the WS/FC school calendar?
No. Calvary sets its own calendar. Often, our holiday schedule will be similar to that of the public schools.

What is the dress code? Do the students wear uniforms?
The goal of our dress code is to help students choose appropriate clothing for the purposes of Christian education. All dress is to be modest, neat and clean. We do not currently use uniforms. Students in middle school and high school may wear KNEE LENGTH shorts as well as jeans that are clean and neat. In addition, girls may wear KNEE LENGTH dresses or skirts. The following styles are not appropriate for school wear: nylon athletic style shorts, halter tops, tank tops, short skirts, sleeveless tops, leggings, or clothing with inappropriate logos. Shoes which do not mark the gym floor should be worn or brought to school on scheduled gym days. Hairstyles should reflect the school culture and should be clean and neatly maintained. Boys should have haircuts above the eyebrows, mid-ear or above, and above a standard shirt collar. Exotic body piercing is not acceptable for Calvary students. Earrings for boys are prohibited at school and school-related activities. In addition, symbols which have secular and/or occult meaning may not be worn on clothes or as accessories.

What is your discipline plan?
We believe that discipline is the process of teaching and training students. After students have been "disciplined" in the expectations, behaviors inconsistent with the expectations will be considered either "childish irresponsibility" which need additional reviewing and training or "defiance." The role of the teachers and principals will be to discern whether it is "childish irresponsibility" or "defiance." An established plan spells out the consequences for defiance and those consequences must be followed for all students. A key concern in any discipline plan is the need for grace and mercy that is granted with a repentant student's heart. Students at Calvary Baptist Day School are expected to be respectful, responsible, and cooperative as evidenced by demonstrating respect for those in authority and for other students, arriving at school on time, ready to learn, completing all assignments on time and adhering to all school policies.

Are your teachers certified and/or licensed to teach?
Teachers in high school are either fully licensed or have been licensed in the past and are in the process of renewing their license to teach in North Carolina. Teachers are also certified by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).

What is your student to teacher ratio?
Our usual maximum number of students in each class section in high school is 24, although most classes are much smaller than that. Currently, our high school has 192 students with a faculty of 26.

What curriculum do you use?
The biblically integrated curriculum used at each grade level at Calvary has been written by Calvary teachers. Textbooks are selected from both Christian and secular publishers based on how well they fit the curriculum that we have developed. Currently we are using texts from a variety of publishers. Please see the high school profile for a complete listing of courses.

Do you have a cafeteria?
Yes. Calvary Baptist Church's Food Service provides the School's food service. We use a moniless debit system. Parents place funds in the student's account. Parents are provided monthly statements.

Is Calvary Baptist Day School accredited?

What sports do you offer?
The high school has try-out teams in girls' and boys' soccer, girls' and boys' basketball, volleyball, boys' baseball, cheerleading, swimming, golf, tennis and cross country. All teams are subject to having enough players to make a team and subject to having a qualified coach.

What about other extra-curricular activities?

You mentioned chapel . . .
CBDS students have a weekly chapel program. The age levels of the chapels vary from week to week. Usually, there are two chapel programs each week: one each in elementary and secondary school. The high school has a Praise Team of students who are instrumental in planning and leading the weekly secondary school chapel services. Parents are always welcome to attend chapel services.

How do your test scores compare with the public school End of Grade Tests?
Private schools in North Carolina are required to give standardized tests which are nationally standardized. The NC End of Grade Tests are only normed or made standard for students in NC, therefore do not meet the private school requirement for a nationally standardized test. We give the Stanford Achievement Test in grades 3-9 and grade 11 each year. School-wide, our scores average between the 85th and 90th percentiles.

Do you have scholarships or financial assistance?
Need-based financial assistance is available for grades early education through twelve. There is a formal application process (with a processing fee) which must be completed. Families may complete a financial assistance application available at the Headmasters office, or may apply online at www.ffna1.com. (CBDS code # is 2105). Although the financial aid application may be submitted at any time, the ideal time is early spring for the following school year. Calvary Baptist Day School DOES NOT AWARD ANY ATHLETIC OR ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS.
